Some artwork that plays with the idea of perception. The artwork takes an entire wall, but is very effective.

light Series 4

light series 4! this space is amazing and the lighting quality is quite beautiful. This is a restaurant and bar and provides an ambient atmosphere for the customers and adds depth perception for the employees. the lighting in the space consisted of recessed incandescent and possibly a few fluorescent in the kitchen. The recessed lighting illuminated the curved ceiling and define each edge. There is possibly a rope light that is inset into a cove which illuminates the perimeter of the restaurant. Additionally there is incandescent lighting directed towards the bar area of the space so that both customers and employees can see the beverages. The colors in the space are neutral and the dominant color consists of a stained wood. The lighting seems appropriate because of the surrounding structure and selected materials. Although the lighting selection and placement is clever within the space, there was no floor level lighting which may have created a unique overall lighting effect.

Sketch Series 3

the variation in the fabrics from the retail/grocery/residence/ and library was quite dramatic. the lighting seemed yellow in some stores but blue in others. the library had the most natural light in which gave the fabrics the best appearance. overall it was a interesting exercise.

light Series 2

The photos taken are from the stone building/ art museum/ restaurant/ retail store. Retail store: There is track , fluorescent, cove and pendent lighting. Some of the track lighting causes a glare on the point of purchase advertisements as well as shadows. The overall lighting quality was good, but some glare was created which may loose the effectiveness of their advertisements. Museum: There was track and natural light as well as wall washing. Some of the track lighting created bubbles of light on the soffits within the space. The lighting allowed the artwork to encompass the focus of the room, but the contrast of the dark and lighted areas of the wall was somewhat distracting. Stone Building: There was pendent, recessed, and natural light within the space. The pendent lighting was directed towards the ceiling and creates an awkward spotlight on the ceiling. The natural light created a reflected glare on the polished floor and the recessed lights also created an awkward spotlight on the drawings. I would lower the pendent light so that it wouldn't create an spotlight on the ceiling, deepen the the display units so that the lighting was appropriate and possibly use some sort of shade system so that the natural light wouldn't create a glare on the polished floor. Restaurant: There was twinkle, pendent, fluorescent, and tv lighting. The bar had a granite counter top which reflected all of the lighting listed above. There was very little ambient light throughout the space and there is a glass facade that also created a discomfort glare. The overall lighting and fixtures was pleasing, but the reflection that the lighting created on the granite bar and glass facade caused discomfort in the restaurant.

Lighting Sketch Series

these are the photos to go along with the sketches.
again 1.19/2.2/2.16/3.2/3.16/3.30/4.13/4.27--from bottom to top respectively. The sketch series has changed each time I go back to my spot, it's exciting to see what the outcome will be when i take the photo. Each week the lighting has moved across the EUC hallway. However the activity has remained the same throughout the weeks, I believe this is because the hallway is attached to the library which will always be used throughout the school year.
